GA COUNCIL OF TEACHERS OF ENGLISH CONFERENCE AWARD
FOR FUTURE ENGLISH TEACHERS OF COLOR

Who is Eligible?

To be eligible for this award, college or university students must be Language Arts Majors, first-time presenters at the GCTE Conference, persons of color and (1) student teaching interns (or have recently completed student teaching) or (2) graduate students enrolled in English or English  Education programs.

Guidelines for Proposed Student Conference Presentation

The GCTE Selection Committee will consider student proposals for conference presentations that meet one or more of these criteria:       

Timeliness:    

Focus on a current issue in the teaching or learning of English Language Arts.

Theory:          

Explore the application of a theoretical framework to the teaching and learning of the English Language Arts.

Research:       

Focus on the use of new research or the creative use of known research to improve the teaching and learning of English Language Arts.

Pedagogy:      

Explore creative classroom practices in the teaching and learning of the English Languages Arts.

How to Apply

     College or university students making application for the GCTE Conference Award for Future English Teachers of Color should submit a completed program proposal form and a one-page statement about their career aspirations. Winners will receive $250.00 to offset costs for attending the conference.  Program proposal and career aspirations statement must be received by November 15, 2008 to:
