Books for ‘Bama

Books for Bama is a drive for school supplies for those students affected by the April 27, 2011 Tuscaloosa area tornadoes. We will gladly accept all of the following supplies:

OUR IMMEDIATE NEED IS SCHOOL SUPPLIES; however, a long-term goal is to restock all impacted students' and families' personal libraries. So, we will gladly accept texts for all ages (YA novels, magazines, Bibles, books for adults, alphabet books, etc.)

--Crayons

--Markers

--Construction Paper

--Coloring Books

--Safety scissors

--Hand sanitizer

--Paper Towels

--Kleenex

--Backpacks

--Pencils or Pens

--Notebooks

--Books (Children and Young Adult Novels)

--Anything else you can think of!

We will have two drop-off points in the Tuscaloosa area. They will be at The Riverwalk/Manderson Landing on Jack Warner Parkway and at Graves Hall on the UA campus. This will still be on Wednesday, May 4th from 2-6 pm.

Can't make it to town, but want to mail some supplies? Mail your donations to:

The Belser-Parton Literacy Center

204 Carmichael Hall, UA, PO Box 870231, Tuscaloosa, AL, 35487-0231

We are also setting up an Amazon wish list account that will send books and supplies directly to the Belser-Parton Literacy Center for those of you who live out of state/out of the area.   If you wish to send books via the Amazon wish list, search for either Books for Bama or the name Lisa Scherff (http://www.amazon.com/Lisa-Scherff/wishlist/1OVZCZAMHRAH1/ref=cm_wl_search_bin_1)  Make sure you pick the one from Tuscaloosa if there is more than one.

As of April 30, we are planning to expand this to the Jefferson County/Hale County areas as well.   More information to come.

I invite you to check out the article about this effort that appeared in the May 4 th issue of the Crimson White , the University of Alabama student newspaper; here is the link you need:

And here’s the link Alan gave me to the drive’s Facebook page-- https://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=105198959569171 --where you can get the most current information.
