Shout Them from the Mountain Tops: Georgia Poems,

Off the Press

Shout Them . . . is a poetry collection written by Georgia poets and sponsored by the Georgia Council of Teachers of English (GCTE), is off the press!  This book, edited by Jean Copland, Hilde Holmes, Jane Dillard Knight, and John S. Knight, Jr.—all four, poets/editors/publishers of other works---with poems selected by an independent Editorial Selection Board, chaired by Tom Liner, poet/writer, co-author with Dan Kirby and others, of three editions of Inside Out, the book on teaching writing which has influenced so many teachers in helping students improve their writing skills.

Other editors on the Selection Board include Alan Perry, Bolton Lunceford, Dee Taylor, Michael Bailey, Christine Williams Powell, Claudia Evans Williams, and Sidney K. Wilson , all educators/administrators/poets/artists with teaching / writing experience.

Shout Them . . . is  published in celebration and promotion of poetry reading and writing in “The Year of the Poem” (April 2003-April 2004) and of “The Year of the Mountain” (initiated by the United Nations in 2001).  The UN chose poetry as the continuing international dialogue in promoting mountain ecology with annual celebrations of reading “Poetry from the Peaks” and nearby cities.

In addition to having poets included who reflect a variety of topics, themes, and styles of universal appeal---and who live in Georgia from the mountains to the seaside and  points in between---four artists have enthusiastically contributed their considerable talents in illustrating the poems selected for publication.  All four artists are National League of American Pen Women who are members and/ or officers in the Columbus Branch of NLAPW, the Columbus Artists Guild, and the Joseph House Art Gallery.

The production of this book has been a celebration in the making with the sincere hope that more readers and writers will recognize the pleasure which can be found in reading and writing poetry.
